The South Norfolk Grants and Awards Panel approved £7,500 to the Waveney Volunteers for Nature. The volunteers carry out work across many towns and parishes in South Norfolk Council. They cut down and clear local areas in the Waveney Valley and others as requested. Most of the work is carried out using hand tools such as scythes, loppers, slashers and rakes. These work well on smaller areas but it is very time consuming and labour intensive. The group will will use the money to buy a mechanical cutter to meet the increased demand and help control some of the larger or more densely grown areas.

The volunteers help support the Government’s Environment Act of 2021, Norfolk County Council’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy, South Norfolk Councils endorsement of community based nature recovery and a growing recognition among the community of the need to act and protect our natural environment.
