Nature Recovery in Harleston was officially launched on Saturday 11 March in St John's Church. I was honoured to speak at the event.
'As the years pass we can all now see the impact our actions have had on the planet on which we live. Most people now recognise that climate change is happening, that more and more species are becoming extinct and that we are nearing a point when the earth cannot support the expanding worldwide population.
The recently adopted Neighbourhood Plan included an aspiration to define the entire parish as a nature recovery area. The Plan is a community document which was voted as accepted by the local people. The aspiration is something which the people of the town demand. The Town Council have taken a bold step in delivering the aspiration in defining the parish as a Nature Recovery Area. I believe that we are at the forefront of such actions and hope that our actions will encourage others to follow.
I fully believe that our Nature Recovery initiative will make a difference. This is not driven by bureaucrats in offices many miles away, this is a peoples project. Everyone doing their small bit to help our environment can collectively make a huge impact. Whether people are in cities or the countryside, everyone can play their part. It will be up to local people to decide how they will take action.
