The Harleston Historical Society are the proud owners of an old fire engine which operated in our town. The Harleston Fire Engine dates from about 1775. It was saved by Mervyn Hickford for the town but has languished in storage for many years while a home was being found.

Gordon Lascelles and I recently visited the Norfolk Fire Museum in Great Yarmouth and are glad to say that we have now found somewhere that our historic machine will be on display. It will take pride of place in the window and will be restored on site. Finally, after many years our fire engine will be available for people to see and enjoy.

The Historical Society runs monthly meetings with a presentation on a topic of local historical interest. I am helping with the website and setting up things on the day. Chris is the Vice Chair and is arranging a trip to see our fire engine. We have built up membership to over 50 people in a complete reboot after Covid. If you would like to join please send me an email at contact@trevorgraham.me and I will send you details.
