Hi, I'm Trevor

Arrival in Harleston

I moved to Norfolk about 20 years ago with my partner Christine and we found our home in Harleston over 12 years ago.  The house was in a very poor state of repair, so bad that it scared off most people at the auction.  It is very daunting, to buy a house in under a minute.

We very much rebuilt our home.  A few months after we bought the house we had no running water, most floorboards were missing and no roof.  We looked at the shell and wondered what we had done.  However, after many months of 'camping' in the house we could finally sit back and enjoy the labours of our love.

We now have a fabulous home in a wonderful town which we share with our gorgeous cat, Squiggle.  Read more about Squiggle.

I enjoy a nice glass of wine, a good pint of beer and a nicely brewed cup of tea with no milk or sugar.

Working with cooperation

I appreciate and value our local groups, it is the local people that make our communities.  I want to get involved.

I am leading 'Our Nature Recovery' which focuses on action that people can take themselves, small acts at home which collectively can make a big difference.  This all started with a local Nature Recovery in Harleston initiative.

I worked with the Harleston and District Historical Society to coordinate a collective programme of events and activities for a community programme as part of Heritage Open Days 2024.  This has left legacy in town trails around Harleston which will be available for locals and visitors.

I attend meetings of the Harleston and District Business Forum to better engage with the Business Community.  Our business owners understand their businesses better than the local politicians.  I will promote the interests of our businesses.

I have used my Members Ward Allowance to support our local groups and have helped others with grant applications.  This is an extremely satisfying part of the role of a District Councillor.

The local government system can be confusing with parish, district and county all playing a part.  While I may not have the answer myself, I can try to help you find the right person to deal with your concerns.

I will listen to your views and represent everyone.

Cooperation and negotiation is the best way to achieve positive results.

I successfully worked with South Norfolk and Norfolk County Councils in the delivery of significant investment in Harleston town centre.  This money could have gone elsewhere but the Town Council managed to attract long overdue investment into Harleston.  We now have a revitalised and vibrant town which is ready for the future.  I will press for further investment across our entire Ward.

I am leading 'Harleston Nature Recovery in Harleston' which will help the local area contribute towards the global challenge to protect our environment.  However, nature does not recognise parish boundaries, and with your support I will promote this to Needham, Wortwell and a wider audience to put Harleston at the forefront of protecting the environment.

I led the successful creation of 'Team Harleston' which has brought the wonderful local groups and organisations from Harleston closer together under a common banner.  Each has their own special branded flag and are now better cooperating on the delivery of local events.  With your help we could see this cooperation extended to Needham and Wortwell and include the entire Harleston Ward.

I worked on development of the Harleston Neighbourhood Plan which was delivered in record time.  It was highly praised by South Norfolk Council as model for others to follow.  The Plan gives the local council a greater share of the money paid by developers when building new housing.  I will insist that the policies of the Plan are applied and that the community is involved in the use of significant funds received.

I am working with the District Council on behalf of the Town Council on a new tourism website which will be rolled out to five other towns throughout South Norfolk and Broadlands.  This will help attract more visitors to our towns and help improve the local economy.  I will ensure that all areas of the Ward are included in the plans.

I have attended the local meetings of the Harleston and District Business Forum to better engage with the Business Community.  I introduced a business listing on the Town Council website to promote and update our local businesses.  Our business owners understand their businesses better than the local politicians.  I will promote the interests of our businesses.

I will listen to your views and represent everyone.

I am passionate about the area and wish to see it and all the community prosper.  I have a particular interest in pursuing the Nature Recovery and Tourism initiatives which we have launched in Harleston.  I would like to see these expand to cover the entire parish and believe that a voice on South Norfolk Council will help out local causes.

I enjoy a nice glass of wine, a good pint of beer and a nicely brewed cup of tea with no milk or sugar.

INVESTMENT IN SERVICES

There is to be a significant expansion in the number of local houses in the coming years.  The plans could lead to a 20% increase in the population.  We all recognise that there is a need for extra services.  The doctors and schools are at capacity.  We need investment now and where it counts.  I will fight for the improvements the community deserves.

Nature Recovery

Sir David Attenborough hit an environmental nail squarely on the head at the end of his recent Planet programmes.  In the face of a crisis for our natural world he looks us straight in the eye with a direct and stark message: 'the future for wildlife is up to every one of us'.  I am committed to championing our Nature Recovery programme and extending this to the surrounding towns and villages.  Together we can play our part in protecting our planet.
